Mission Statement: "The mission of Mimosa Elementary’s Media Center is to promote an appreciation for reading, to encourage lifelong learning, and to ensure that all students, teachers, and staff are effective users of ideas and information."
Media Center Hours:
The Media Center is open from 7:10 until 3:00. In the mornings, students must go to their classrooms before coming to the Media Center.
Students in Kindergarten may check out 1 book at a time to keep in their classroom.
Students in grades 1-5 may check out 2 books at a time and may take them home.
1st grade students may not take books home until after Open House, where they will receive information from their homeroom teachers about check out procedures and book care.
If a student is working on a project or presentation, he or she may check out an additional book that pertains to the research topic.
It is up to the homeroom teacher whether library books stay in the classroom or go home with the student.
All materials may be checked out for two weeks.
We do not charge fines for overdue/late books.
However, if an item is not returned by its due date, no new books may be checked out until it is returned,
Overdue notices are provided to the classroom teacher at the end of each month.
Lost/Damaged Items: Students who lose or damage a book will be expected to pay a nonrefundable $5 fine. If the book was new during the current school year, then the student will be expected to pay the full replacement value.
Coloring or writing on any pages
Water or other liquid anywhere on the book (be careful of water bottles in backpacks!)
Ripped/torn/chewed cover or pages
Refunds Students who have paid the full amount for a lost book will receive a refund if the book is found and returned to the media center within the same school year and in good condition. A letter will be sent home and a check for the refund amount can be picked up in the media center. Fines cannot be refunded.
